Company Overview We are The Paper Heart , an independent bookstore opening early 2026 in Kentlands neighborhood of Gaithersburg, Maryland. We aim to connect a community of book lovers through books, book-ish products, and engaging events. We are starting to build a team that is excited about bringing readers together in a welcoming environment. Position We are seeking both full-time and part-time booksellers to join our in-store team at 200 Main Street in Gaithersburg, located on the 2nd floor. Our booksellers will be passionate readers of fiction specializing in fantasy, romance, mystery, sci‑fi, or other fiction sub-genres. Team members will greet patrons, learn about their reading journeys, and guide them to their next favorite read. In addition to processing sales transactions, maintaining stock and visual displays, and ensuring a welcoming store environment, team members will leverage existing skills or grow their skillsets in one of the following areas: Marketing / Social Media Event Planning Event Coordination / Logistics Community Outreach Responsibilities Greeting and engaging customers with meaningful conversations about books. Recommending suitable titles based on customer preferences. Processing sales transactions accurately. Maintaining inventory, restocking shelves, and arranging visual displays. Ensuring a welcoming and organized store environment. Requirements A passion for books and strong knowledge in fantasy, romance, mystery, sci‑fi, or other fiction sub-genres. Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage in meaningful conversations. Organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong listening skills, able to identify customer and community needs. Preferred Experience / Skillset Experience in bookselling and providing tailored recommendations to customers. Proficiency in sales and transaction processing.
