Job Description

Job Summary:

The Genetic Counselor assistant is a vital position aiding the genetic counselor in providing the best patient care, education, advocacy, and research collaborations. This role offers an introduction to clinical and non-clinical genetics, providing exposure and skill development in the evolving field of genomic medicine. While primarily administrative and customer service-oriented, the role requires strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Job Responsibilities:

• Communicates with healthcare providers and patients regarding genetic services, including test ordering, insurance, results, and appointments.


• Maintains databases, network folders, and insurance portals.


• Completes genetic testing requisitions and medical records for sequencing under supervision.


• Prepares insurance documentation and assists with inquiries and appeals.


• Coordinates patient tests and evaluations, reviews scientific literature, and prepares educational materials.


• Assists in planning educational and advocacy events, and manages paperwork for research.


• Performs administrative duties such as scheduling and correspondence.


• Specific responsibilities for the Support Center include triaging communications, facilitating urgent test orders, and resolving testing issues.


• For the Genomics Laboratory, responsibilities include using visualization software, researching testing options, and data preparation.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelors degree in a science field preferred; not required.


• No prior experience necessary.


• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.


• Excellent communication skills.


• Critical thinking, problem solving, and ability to work independently.


• Knowledge of medical terminology, genetics, insurance, and billing is a plus but not mandatory.

Pay Range

$24.00-$39.24 Hourly
