Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Genetic Counselor.

Seeking a full time Genetic Counselor position within the division of Movement Disorders. The GC will see patients with different genetic forms of movement disorders (including but not limited to Parkinsons disease, dystonia, chorea, ataxia, complex movement disorders). The research tasks will include coordinating and leading ongoing research projects supported by nation and foundation grants to expand the understanding of the genetic of Parkinsons disease and other movement disorders. This position will include patient interaction as well as involvement with data analysis leveraging different genomic approaches.

Job Responsibilities:

• Demonstrates knowledge of the organizations Core Values and incorporates them into the performance of duties.
• Provides neurogenetic risk assessment and counseling.
• Reviews and interprets genetic test results and communicates risk assessment to patients and physicians.
• Documents discussions and lab results in patient charts.
• Performs diagnostic testing and counseling for neurological genetic conditions due to clinical presentation or because of a positive family history.
• Performs pediatric and adult diagnosis of genetic diseases.
• Conducts genetic evaluation of individuals at risk due to clinical presentation and family history of genetic disease.
• Clinical genetic evaluations and counseling along with a neurologist, primarily genetic counseling in patients with suspected or diagnosed genetic disorders.
• Genetic counseling and presymptomatic DNA testing of individuals at risk for specific single-gene diseases.
• Genetic counseling and predisposition DNA testing of individuals at risk for complex diseases, such as specific forms of Neurological Conditions.
• Participates in clinic meetings. Actively participates in activities of the Medical School. Offers education in genetics to medical students, residents, and the public.
• Assists with relevant research studies, abstract writing, and development of patient/staff educational materials.
• Analysis, research, and curation of genetic variants with deep investigation of the scientific and medical literature.
• Maintaining awareness and compliance with federal/state/local study regulations, regulatory documents, and developing IRB (Institutional Review Board)-approved research protocols.
• Reporting results to subjects, including providing genetic counseling, interpreting evaluation findings for subjects, and providing resources for psychosocial support and research advocacy.
• Sample procurement and coordination for genome sequencing and other analyses.
• Comprehensive review of subjects medical records.
• Recruitment and enrollment of subjects.
• Responsible for one clinical program: Movement Disorder Clinic.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in Genetic Counseling and be certified by the American Board of Genetic Counselors. Proficiency in using various Microsoft Office applications such as World, Excel, Access, Power Point and Outlook. Familiar with Internet applications. Effective oral, written, communication, interpersonal skills. Ability to interface effectively with all levels of management and must work and communicate effectively with both internal and external customers. Ability to work within a team environment as well as independently. Ability to work and make decisions independently. Time management skills and ability to multi task. Strong understanding and knowledge base of coordination requirements associated with clinical/research trials. Ability to identify, analyze and solve problems; ability to work well under pressure..

Required Licenses: Certified Genetic Counselor

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $67,771.14 - $108,674.59 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
