The Department of Kinesiology is housed in the College of Health, Education, and Social Transformation on the vibrant campus of New Mexico State University. The department has an undergraduate enrollment of approximately 575 majors, and a graduate enrollment of approximately 40 between the Masters program in Athletic Training and the Ph.D. program in Kinesiology.
Faculty are research active in exercise physiology, motor behavior, physical education pedagogy, sport and exercise psychology, and biomechanics. Our commitment to cutting-edge research is supported by access to a range of laboratories and collaborative resources.
The department fosters collaboration across campus with programs in Biomedical Sciences, Nutrition, and Engineering, and is supported by institutional grant services and internal research funding opportunities. Faculty are encouraged to pursue interdisciplinary work aligned with the universitys R1 research mission.
In 2026, the department will move into a newly renovated academic and research space, further enhancing our capacity to serve students and conduct high-impact research. We are also proud to be a member of the American Kinesiology Association and a recognized Educational Recognition Program (ERP) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
